Instilling a Faith That Continues to Endure

No Christian enjoys the times of suffering, but for several reasons, enduring the pain we go through is a normal part of the Christian life. In the scripture, we’re given several signs that tell us that as followers of Jesus Christ, we’re supposed to expect suffering and hardships.

3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;”

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-4

Suffering will indeed be a part of every Christian’s life, but with help from God, we can all overcome this trial to serve our purpose in His kingdom. In the second epistle to Timothy, Apostle Paul shares truths about how one can endure suffering.

1. Don’t Forget the Reason for Suffering

8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.”

  • 2 Timothy 2:8-9

As Christians, we should never forget the reason behind our suffering and to whom we serve. The Apostle Paul was ready to suffer for the Gospel’s proclamation, and for the glory of his God. It doesn’t matter whether your suffering is big or small; we all suffer for the same reasons.

2. Remember the Things You Believe Are True from God’s Word

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,”

  • 2 Timothy 1:9

During times of darkness, it’s important you remember the times when there was light; when you were actively following your love for Jesus Christ. The memories of the good times help us return to the true calling of God. It’s important to remember that during this life’s tribulations and persecutions will arise on several occasions.

On some days, you’re going to experience mental and physical pain at the same time and the enemy will fill your mind with the reasons to stray away from your faith. Remember, you aren’t suffering because of karma.

3. Throughout Your Suffering, Remember the Word of God

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
